movign tank.. have a few questions
Hi all,
I am moving to a new house in a couple weeks (only about 5 miles away). Here is the plan. 1. Move RODI system first and make a ton of water 2. move corals from 100 gallon display to a couple 55 gallon tanks for a 48 hour period while I set up the 100 gallon in the new home 3. Add the rock and corals back into the 100 gallon tank. Keep in mind, the tank is 5 or 6 years old and so it the substrate My questions are: 1. should I wash (in salt water) and use the old substrate or put in new (I have no desire to go bare bottom, so lets not mention it LOL)?? 2. Should I "swish" the rocks in the old water before putting it into the tank? I do plan to use 70 gallons of old water in the tank at time of setup and 30 gallons of new water, so I would have 30 gallons of old water to swish the rock in.. The reason I ask these questions is, I do not want to send the tank into "new tank syndrome" by washing away too much beneficial bacteria.. Thanks!!! Last edited by Tava176; 06/14/2009 at 08:21 PM. |

a good shaking would do it. you just want to get all the detritus off/out of the rock. i have a 120 sps tank, and i have moved every year since i got it six years ago. awesome i know. i always set up a 75 with some new and old sand at the place. i take all of the livestock over to the new place first. put it all in the 75 and keep them there for a week or so, till the tank is stable again. i have never replaced my sand, but every time i wished i had. that is where most of the nasty stuff is at. it has taken up to two weeks for the water to clear. i would be more concerned about the sand than anything else. if you keep it make sure you rinse it really really well. last time i moved it took me twelve hours from start to finish and thats not even putting the coral and rock back it, but thats just me. good luck!
