Is there an optimal length pipe to run from your sump to your return pipe

As short as possible and as straight as possible.

Plumbing design depends on a lot of factors - can you give us some more info on your plans? i.e. tank size, sump size, which pump you want, how you want the return situated in the tank (i.e. a manifold, single output, etc.) etc.

I am running a dart a 135g DT 30g sump 10g fuge. The output on the pump will go from a 1.5" to 1" returning 4 different places. 2 1" to the DT one 1" to the fuge and if I need more flow to the sump I will just run the forth staight back to the sump. But the 4th is more just there for expasion
