Adding Sand???

Can you add sand to an existing tank?

Yes, just try and do it in small amounts so that you don't smother the life within an existing sandbed. Maybe spread it out over a week or so. If you don't have any sand at all, go right ahead and add whatever you need. You might have a few days of cloudy water but it will settle.

An east tool for adding sand without a sand storm:
Take a 2 inch piece of pvc and glue a funnel to one end. Make sure the pvc can reach the existing substrate. Pour the sand through the pvc ---you can even direct it without any stirring up.
