Remora question -- Overspilling?

Hey guys...

I am not a noob per se and I have read and searched a lot about the remoras on here.

Anyway, I bought a used remora, cleaned it, but learned that it was missing the rubber ring that allows me to adjust it.

I've had my tank up and going for about two months now, but my remora constantly blows bubbles up through the chamber, water fills the chamber, and then the bubbles flow out of the TOP of the tray via the little hole in there.

I've tried to adjust the screw to see if that would help.
I've since rigged some 3M parts on the side of the tray to adjust the tray higher to see if that would cut down on some of the bubbles. No luck there either.

Do I maybe have too strong of a pump on it? Would that cause it?

I haven't seen a post about anyone else having this issue. These are not microbubbles in the return...

I will try to post a pic if I can figure it out.

Have you tried a thick rubber band in place of the ring, that will work. You need to get the cup up higher. The rubber band will allow that and help block some of the bubbles that come up the sides of the cup. What pump are you using? If raising the cup doesn't work, try to use a valve to reduce the flow (between the discharge of the pump and inlet into the skimmer, never in the inlet of the pump).

I own one and you need the o-ring or something similar to adjust the height of the cup although that is not causing the bubbles per se. It should be skimming too wet when way down. You can purchase the o-ring on MarineDepot.com for $1.99 but use a rubber band until then.
I have a maxi-jet 1200 on mine and it runs great. What pump are you running?

I'd be ecstatic if my Remora was skimming like that! No really, what pump are you using with your Remora? And do you use tap water conditioners or dose anything else that could be causing it to over act?

LOL .. Drummereef, I know what you mean. Although it does a decent enough job. Look like you have it hanging off a fuge.

It has the 1400 with it, so I don't imagine that is the issue.

I actually moved it up when I added the 3m sticky hooks to it -- I can re-adjust them and try again.

Do I use water conditioners -- I did when I first filled my tank, but that was forever ago. I don't imagine that the initial capful or even any subsequent capful would make this thing go nuts.

I only feed 2x a week and don't have a ton of load -- so I guess it is mostly cup placement being my culprit...

I would presume it's the cup placement. I would move it waaay up. What brand pump is that?

Conditioners can cause your skimmer to go crazy so just watch it next time you use some. Or, just get an RO/DI and be happy.

I have the same problem with this skimmer and have had it for over a year. The cup fills up with crystal clear water in about 15 minutes. The cup is set as high as it can go. I've cleaned the skimmer thoroughly as well as the pump. I also have the preskimmer/bubble trap and the skimmer STILL puts a million microbubbles into my tank. Its very frustrating. I've not put any conditioners in the tank at all.

I just installed my remora pro with a mag 3 pump tonight. I got it with a hole in the collection cup and a spiggot to attach a hose to a bottle for overflow. It filled the bottle with water in less than an hour. I had to put the hose in the tank until I can contact customer service . The bottle had no foam nor scum; just salt water. Can anyone tell me if they have had similar problems and how they solved them? I know it has to work a couple days before it begins working correctly but I never imagined that I would have a 2 liter bottle fill up in 45 minutes! Help!

The Remora is a piece of crap. Get your self a good skimmer and throw the Remora in the garbage.

I have two one in sump model on my 58 and one hang on model on my 55 and both do a great job . I feel they are good for smaller tanks like I have . I use the maxi-jet 1200 on both . (I will not be throwing mine in the garbage) .
