Hydor Performer skimmers
Anyone use these/or know how they perform? I have been googling and searching and i cant find anything like a review or performance appraisal on this line.
There has to be something, right? How are they? http://www.hydor.it/prodotti/show/famprod/29/list/11 |

Anyone have an opinion on this?

I hope it never catches on, I like having the oldest tank on here and I don't have to worry about calcification, bio pellets, Vodka dosing, DSBs, Chaetomorpha (I don't even know what that is) Carbonite hardness and all of these other things many people worry about. If I had to think about all of that stuff I would get a stroke. My test kit came in a wooden box and the directions say to keep in a cool chariott. I throw some food in the tank, wave hello to the fish and go out with my wife and have a nice glass of merlot with dinner. Have a great day but most of all, have fun. -PaulB Current Tank Info: 27 Gallon DAS softy/fish reef |

I was hoping to hear from someone about how they react to adjustment, and if they adjust well. A LFS has a demo Performer 600 that is like new for 40% off. It looks nice, and it feels solid. The design seems to follow the deltec recirc setup. |

Those are some damn expensive beginner skimmers. What do they plan to do, fool people into buying them because they think $$$ = performance? For $400 you could get a nice used deltec or a new Octo Extreme.
Search ended.

For that style skimmer, the DAS skimmers, based on older deltec recirc design, are a much safer bet. The DAS aquabee pumps perform well and the DAS skimmers just plain work. But there are more current designs available now and there are budget skimmers with these newer designs for less money than the Hydors. Why not just go with a skimmer that is know to work. There are plenty of solid reviews out there for skimmers other than the Hydors that cost less.
Look at some of the lower cost Vertex skimmers maybe. There is a Vertex skimmer thread on the forum with lots of reviews. |

1DeR9_3Hy, Just picked up a Performer 600 for $100. Will get it up and running soon... maybe tomorrow. I will be setting it up on a 120g reef tank which I am currently running a Euro-Reef RS 80. The RS 80 is just a little small for my setup, as far as how its rated and from what people have told me. Have not owned any other decent skimmers... so my comparison will be limited to the RS-80. Also, for anyone else reading this... any thoughts on the RS-80 for my 120g reef (small bioload)...and would it be unreasonable to run both the RS-80 and Performer 600, thanks.

I have a recirculating Hydor. Im happy with it. My 72G tank has a medium bioload. It is a dry skimmer. It doesnt produce a lot of skim, but the skim it does produce is black. The collection cup is a little hard to take off, but I have never spilled like people say. Only a child would spill it. Overall, Im happy. The bad is that it wont work for the first week. The new plastic or rubber inhibits the foam. Full function takes takes 2 weeks, then its good. The option to adjust the air and water flow and water height is useless. Ive tried all settings and the best seems to be full water flow, full air flow, and full water height.
