cyano

i have noticed that in my refugium which is in my sump i have some cyano on the glass and some on the sand - i am going to syphon it off the sand and the glass -i also turned the light off was wondering what could have caused this in just this area none in display. any ideas- tank has been up for 2 months

Low flow area with detritus build up is a possibility. Redirect the flow if you can.

It can sometimes be attributed to flow, how's the flow in the area in question?

flow comes from skimmer area so it is slow

Sounds like that could be the cause, I would siphon it out like u said & try to increase the flow. Maybe add a small powerhead in that area of your sump if you have space....

i have a maxi jet 400 would that be too much for a small space 12"x10"

Probably not, I would give it a try & see how it works, you should be able to tell pretty quickly if it's overkill....
