Help! Still a gurgling noise in overflow box (external)

Hi guys. There is a really annoying gurgling noise that has lessened with the "durso type style pipe" I built. However, when I drilled the hole it slowed the flow rate down, enough that it would decrease the water level in my sump. Therefore I drilled more holes to get more air into the pipe, and now the flow rate is good again; HOWEVER, it makes a smaller but still annoying gurgling sound. How do I fight this? I tried using the tubing method but the tubes make the water level go lower too. Help!

FYI: This is an external overflow box, the tanks not drilled. Its a 90 gallon tank with a 600 GPH (1 inch) overflow box.

Also, do you guys know how to lower the main tank's water level, not the sumps?

Is tthere anyway to step up the plumbing on the durso pipe to 1.5" this will help tremendously with flow and noise...

Troylee, how would that be possible if the bulkhead is 1 inch? Thats a really good idea and I wish I could do it.

Is your inner box adjustable? On mine, I can lower the inner box and thus lower my water level. I made a stockman standpipe and it's pretty quiet. No gurgling noise. My skimmer and return pump makes the loudest noise in my sump.

That makes sense, I'll lower the internal box. However, doesn't lowing it make the box less efficient skimming wise since the box will be deeper into the water?

By lowering the box you're lowering the water level in the DT, so it will still be skimming the surface. Be sure you've got room in your sump for the extra water.

Also, how do I eliminate the noise of water going down the pipes?
I figured out a way to eliminate the gurgling noise.

I use these on my HOB overflows:

Water going down the pipes will be quieter over time but you can also wrap them with foam insulation to deaden any sound they make.

Thanks for telling me about that HOB pipe. I will definitly try to invest in one! Only question I have is, how high are they? Will they make the flow less because it will go above the plastic piece in the middle which divides the overflow into two sections?
