shrimp moulting

Should the exoskeleton be removed or leave it there? I have hermit crabs. I assume the crabs will eat it but am not sure if the skin will cause problems.

I remove my molts when I get the chance sometimes my serpant starfish or hermits get them first, just personal preference.
