Anyone like the new Mag Flip algae scraper?
I saw the demo video on dr. foster and smith. So does anyone here have one?

I have one for my 90. It works pretty good. Takes a bit to get used to the flip but once you figure it out its easy. Algae side works well, i haven't tried the scraper much though as the tank its in is new and has no coraline on the glass yet. The only thing I wish it did? is float. that's only as I have a inwall and have to actually physically remove it to place it on the back glass to clean in behind. So I get a few drips on the floor /glass in front .. no big deal.

I just got one of these last week to use on my 110g and the magnets are WAAYYY too weak. It holds to the glass ok but it's not strong enough to really do any scraping. I was really hoping this would work to keep the corners clean where my regular mag-float doesn't do very well. I tried it in my 29g where the glass is MUCH thinner and it still had problems scraping light coralline and tougher green algae. The pad side is poorly designed as well and it takes twice as many swipes as a regular mag-float to clean off the film algae. Overall this thing is a bust.

If you end up looking for alternatives I'm in love with a mag-float with an "easy-blade" attachment. You can get them at champion lighting supply.
http://www.championlighting.com/home.php?cat=674 You just super glue the scraper to the appropriate sized mag float and insert the razor blade. You can quickly and easily retract the blade if you just want to use the mag-float, but the scraper takes care of coralline like nothing else. When I'm usually having to make 2-3 passes with a hand scraper the easy blade takes of any coralline in a single pass.

I bought one and it works for me.
I like how thin it is. My tank is viewable on three sides and some of my rock is close to the glass. The inner part is very thin, it goes where my mag-float won't. I don't have a lot of coralline, I keep it scraped off. The mag flip does a good job on the tougher green algae I get. My mag float is older so maybe a newer one would work better. But my mag flip works better than my mag float, FWIW. I have an Oceanic 50 gallon tank and the glass is thicker than other smaller tanks. |

Well guys. I bought and tried out that mag flip scraper this morning, and it works like a charm. The scraper side just cuts and chisels away the hard algae. With that being said I really like the low profile of the unit to. I can get to the tightest spots in my tank.Spots where I thought there was no way I could get to.
I think this is probably the best algae magnet pad there is because of the scraper feature, and that you can easily change out the scraper with a replacement(plus it being super low profile). I know some of you complained about the magnet being on the weak side when using the pad part, I dont think it would be any more efficient if it used just say powerful earth magnets because some of the tougher algae cannot even be budged without scraping it off. I also ordered the hammer head magnet pad. I want to give this one a try. I still think that the mag flip is unique in its own way because of the scraper.. |

I love my easy blade attachment!! The only bad thing I have about it is that I was going to fast one day and put a 4" scratch into my new tank.. |
