Adjusting a NWB 110 Octopus Skimmer

So I have had my tank running for 3 days and I am still not getting any skimmate. Right now I only have live rock and will be getting sand on Thursday. I know that it can take a few days to a few weeks before a skimmer is broken in but I still have a few questions:

- I know that I can turn the tube to have the water flow all the way from open to close. What is the best setting to have when your first getting your tank up and running?

- My pump for the skimmer is sitting about 8 inches under the water. Is that a good height for it?

- The skimmer is creating a lot of bubbles in the chamber and the bubbles always seem to be in the neck of the skimmer but they never make it up to the collection cup. I'm guessing that this is normal for a new skimmer?

Thanks for anyone who can help me out with this!

Sounds normal. 8 inches is fine and sounds like you have the bubble level is where you want it. you can adjust it a little bit more to get some skimmate.

Alright. Thanks!

I guess if my skimmer doesn't start to produce skimmate within the next week (especially after adding the sand) then I probably need to adjust it one way or another.

It will take some time for your skimmer to really start working. If the tank has been up for 3 days and there is no fish in the tank, there isn't any skimmate to remove from the water. Skimmers remove mostly algaes and fish poo, neither of which you'll have at this point.
