Korilla 4 or 5? Why such...
I noticed that Korilla 4 produces about 1,200 gph while the Korilla 5 produces about the 1600 range.
The price difference between the two is significant. The K4 is about $64 and the K5 is about $100ish. Then on top of that the K4 is 12 watts while the K5 is only 8 watts. Will the K5 be too much current in a 90 gallon? And also is the wattage really a big difference (not an electrical techie). Because there's such a big difference in price, I was going to settle for two K4s but that's a total of 24 watts! Any feedback? |

I have the k5's in my 90. Get great flow and no sandstorm. I do have them pointing slightly up towards the surface to promote agitation and evap.

You could always mod your K4 and it is said to start producing around 2500 gph! You don't have to cut anything, its just a matter of switching the magnet and impeller out with one that is used in maxi-jets.

The K5 is from the Magnum line, so the internals are different, and it's larger. Hence the differences. You'd have to verify this, but iirc, they approve one of the two lines for use on on/off wavemakers, but not the other.
(and then of course there are the "controllable" korallias, which are totally 100% different!) The K5 won't be too much in a 90, if you position it correctly, but personally, I'm a fan of lots of smaller powerheads rather than one large one. Don't worry about wattage. These prop-style pumps are much lower in power consumption than typical centrifugal powerheads or pumps of similar capacity. A maxi-jet 1200 is 20w all by itself, and will create far less flow than just one K4.
