African Flameback Angel: Your experience?
Hi there-
This was one of two fish I was looking at as the last addn to my 20g high. Its inhabitants are a pair of ocellaris that can be a bit bullyish to newcomers, and a new yellow watchman goby that will be getting a shrimp pal on Friday. Please only reply if you have experience with this angel or with a similarly described angelfish. Here is a bluezoo's description: Scientific Name Centropyge acanthops Reef Compatible With Caution Care Level Beginner Disposition Semi-aggressive Min. Tank Size 24 gallons Mature Size 3 inches Diet Omnivore Range Africa Size Class 0 [...]one of the smallest of the Centropyge family. [of] all of the dwarf-dwarf or pygmy Angelfish in the Centropyge genus are among the hardiest in the entire Angelfish family. [...] They may occasionally chase or defend their territories against intruding non-sessile invertebrates like shrimp or crabs but will typically leave such invertebrates completely alone. ------------------ So, if you have experience with this dwarf, please reply. 1) did it bully other tankmates? 2) did it swim frantically/ or only intermittently/or at a slow-medium pace? 3) Would it likely bully a yellow watchman goby that inhabits the bottom of the tank? Thanks, Angela

I got that fish in my 40 breeder. He lives alone and stays in the rocks during the day unless there is food offered. He comes out more during my blue light hours. I added a six line and they seemed to get along very well, but one night the 6 line escaped to dry land. He doesn't bother any of my inverts. He also has not eaten any corals. I have had him for about 5 months. Seems like a lot of fish for a 20H, but what do I know. They stay pretty small. 2) It's a fish so it swims like all 3 of those things depending on what's going on. He's normally pretty relaxed 3) Don't think he'd mess with a goby. I'd be more worried about those clowns breakin off every sucka in da house. word.

I had one and loved him. He never bothered my corals. However it is an angel and I here it can be hit or miss. They are very active swimmers and are very pecefull. I had mine with a clown and goby and he did fine.

I have found them hard to acclimate. I have kept many other Centropyge and this are one that I don't have very good luck with.

Funny, cubs' fish doesn't come out unless there is food, and runyonh's fish has an active swimmer. Did you guys have acclimation trouble?
Brian, what happened during/after acclimation? Did the fish never eat? Thanks all. angela

Hi all-
I've decided to give it a go with this fish. Luckily they have a week guarantee so that if it doesn't acclimate or eat they will credit me I've already ordered the fish and I will update here with my own experience soon. Thanks for the replies. Angela
