What is this stuff and how do I get rid of it.

I've had a 20g Long set up for over a year now. With NO Problems except for some aptasia.

So this tank was given to me (a 33gallon or a 40 long, not sure which but honestly haven't looked or checked into it) , along with the new lighting. Three 21'' (2) 65 watt dual daylight and one 65watt Dual actinic (I don't have $$ right now for the 2nd Dual Actinic, coming on payday!)

I never had anything like this in my other tank and now I cant figure out why, I had a T5 10K Daylight and a T5 6,500k Actinic on it before. (On the 20long) and never had an issue.

Looks like cyno and hair algae. What are phosphate and other levels? Do you use RO/DI water??

I agree that phosphates and nitrates are fueling the algae.
It also could be the bulbs---as they get older the spectrum of light they give off shifts to the level that algae love.

Are you or was the other owner using tap water for water changes and top ups?

Check your flow--it should be between 20-40 times the tank volume

Due a 30 per cent water change, and take out one or two rocks a week---scrub them off quickly and return them to the tank.

I'm honestly not sure. I'll have it tested tomorrow. And the bubbles are because the water level is a little low at the moment and I have a "H.O.T." Filter at the moment that pours into the tank.

Yeah, I use RO/DI, I buy it from a local marine store.

Also, I've been at the beach for a week so everything is a little off at the moment I'm sure. I let a Not So Salt Water Enthusiast take care of everything for me while I was gone.
