Um... bacteria,parasite, other??!?
Hello i have a purple dartfish in quarantine with what appears as cloudy white blotches on his side and eye... too large to be ich.
The large on on the side, seems to only be attached on one side. I noticed that the large on on the side has moved with is really throwing me off trying to diagnose it. Im treating with marcyn right now, he seems to be breathing alright, eating, not in any real distress. Can you help me with a prognosis and a cure? side eye |

Most likely Flukes, from your description. Prazi pro will take care of them, if indeed they are Flukes. Google Flukes and try to match up with a photo. Good luck.

They really don't scratch. It's more like they dart around and have clamped fins. Hope this helps. Oh, by the way. Give him a fresh water dip. If they fall off they are Flukes. Match water temp. and ph to your Qt. tank water and give it a go.

You can use prazipro in your dt. 1 tsp. per 20 gallons of water. 1 treatment, 5-7 days usually solves the problem. Flukes spread and lay eggs thats why the 5-7 days for a treatment. No skimmer or carbon or anything else that removes medication for 5-7 days while you are treating. Prazipro will bother ornamental worms if you have them in your dt. This is one of the easier pests to get rid of, if you act promptly. Good luck and don't stress yourself out everyone makes mistakes.

It would be extremely foolish to dose any medicine into a display tank. 1) Even if it's just the worms that die off, you don't know how many you have, between bristles, featherdusters, and flatworms, etc -- it may be enough to cause a tank crash if they all die en masse. 2) Bristles are incredibly helpful as a cleanup crew -- even if the bristles themselves dying doesn't create a tank crash, without their insatiable appetites and fast eating, the next times something dies you could end up with a crash w/o your bristle crew to clean things up. 3) You don't know how long that stuff is going to hang around your tank. With some medicines, even a single use is enough to contaminate live rock etc. for good. Just put the fish into a quarantine to treat it -- with all the time and money you put into your tank, don't risk it, even if somebody swears it's perfectly safe. What if they're wrong? |

Before you listen to anyone, do a little research. Read about Prazipro and then go to the disease forum and see what people have to say over there. Then formulate your own plan of treatment. Just don't wait too long. Good luck.
