Lights Off Algea Treatment?

I have started to get red slime in my 46g softie tank. I switched to ro about two weeks ago and have been romoving it from the sb regularly. It is creeping up the sides from under the sand.
If I leave my lights off for about 48 hours will this help kill the red slime? I know the switching to ro will help a lot but I need to get rid of whats there. I've got about 100 polyps of zoo's and paly's, neon green sin, toadstool, about 15 shrooms, xenia, kenya tree, rico's, and gsp. Are they safe to go that long w/o light?

a black out; that is not just leaving the light off but blocking ambient light, will kill off most cyano after roughly 3 days. Your corals will be fine. THis is a temporary fix. On some level you are proividing a good enviroment in terms of flow, nutrients and light for cyano. Oftentimes a big waterchange after a blackout can help you get ahead on the nutrients (since they are free instead of bound up in cyano).

Current Tank Info: broken and dry
