Vacation feeding

Soon I'll leaving town for a week, and a neighbor is coming in to feed my cats and check on things. I was thinking about thawing some frozen food in RODI water and leaving several portions in small containers in the refrigerator, with instructions to feed one container every other day. No danger of overfeeding that way!

Does that sound like a good plan, or do you think the thawed food would go bad?

What we did was put food in babyfood jars and leave it in the freezer with instructions to take one 'bulb' (like a turkey baster) of tank water and put it in the frozen food and let it thaw (10 mins tops) and then feed...

That way we didn't have to leave anything thawed and it was just what we wanted.

That said, I have left thawed food in the fridge for 4 days and used it with no problems. I don't know beyond that...

If your critters will take flake food, I tell the pet sitter to just put a pinch of flake in every day (submerge in water a few seconds, then release so they don't float on the surface).

I leave the frozen food in little dixie cups in the freezer, all my sitter does is thaw with ro water and dump in tank. I don't worry about phosphates from the thaw water when on vacation.
