Greg's 240 Gallon Tank
I have about 4 years experience with a reef tank. My first was a 55 gallon inherited from my son who was being deployed to Iraq. I spent 3+ years floundering in "LFS guy" land listening to and acting on bad advice. Do I blame them? NO, I was ignorant and sought no knowledge on my own. After reading RC, WWM and the like for about a day, I realized that I knew nothing about reefkeeping and could not rely on the information or mis-information presented at the LFS level. Furthermore, at the time, I was not smart enough to know the difference
Now, this post is not to knock LFS's or employees. It is to point out that we, as reefkeepers, are obilgated to educate ourselves to know the difference between proper and improper advice. This was a lesson I learned at the expense of many animals. How sad! I now have a 240 reef, While I am learning every day, it seems to be a thriving ecosystem. I am very happy with the system and enjoy it so much. It started cycling on 3 May and I transferred and started adding life stock on July 15. I hope you enjoy some pics.

A few more Pics
I hope it looks as good to you as it does to me. It is not a mature tank, but I think the foundation is good.

light Fixture
What kind of light fixture are you using on that Tank? I'm ordering two 4ft Hamilton fixtures for my 240 with 250watt MH.

Please comment
I forgot to mention that I would appreciate any and all comments. As much as positive comments would stroke my already appreciable ego, I welcome any and all feedback. I especially welcome any danger signs you might see. I am looking to stock over the next 5 years. I do not want fish very common to the aquaria hobby, such as Zebrasoma flavecens. The current fish list, all but one transferred from the 55 is, 2 Amphiprion ocellaris, a Pterapogon kauderni, 2 Nemateleotris decora and a newly acquired Opistognathus rosenblatti.
In addition to my current, I am concentrating on more rare specimens. Below are the fish I am considering. The final list will be a scaled down decision. I welcome any additional suggestions. Dwarf Angels Centropyge acanthops (African Flameback Angel) or Centropyge argi Anthias Mirolabrichthys dispar (Disbar Anthias) 1 male. 2 females Pseudanthias kashiwae (Pictilis)1 male,2-5 females Blennie For algae control Atrosalarias fuscus (Black Sailfin Blenny) Gobies Amblygobius semicinctus (Bullet Goby) for Sand algae Hoplolatilus purpureus (Purple Tilefish) pair Pseudochromis tonozukai (orange Peel) mated pair Acanthurus sohal My must have fish and final fish Reef Safe Wrasses Cirrhilabrus tonozukai Cirrhilabrus naokoae Cirrhilabrus jordani Cirrhilabrus Rhomboidalis Macropharyngodon negrosensis
