Large Fish for a Reef?
I'm planning a 150 gallon pretty soon and I am wanting to think of livestock because maybe I'll change my plans for tank size.
I had always prefered learge meaty fish. When I was in FW I loved the South and Central American cichlids, I have 250 gallon tanks housing 16" monsters. I loved that. Now I don't want anything that big in SW but I do want something thats 6-7 even 8". But thats reef safe, is there such thing. Sorry I forgot to mention, no tangs. I know the tangs that I want, I want to know fish besides tangs. Thanks

What tangs are you planning and what are the dewmensions of your 150g? These 2 things will affect your other stocking..

I have a foxface in my 180gal. I keep him very well fed and he's been completely reef safe thus far. He is a bit of a chicken... but we love him! He gets along fine with my tangs as well.

I second the rabbitfish. They get big (12"+) but don't really require the swimming room a tang does. A big wrasse will eat anything it can catch, so I cant recommend one of those.
There are some angels and butterfly fish that are usually reef safe and get that big , but you have to be VERY careful with them, as they can turn into coral eaters anytime. |
