Is mysis better than brine shrimp?

Well, i want to move on from flakes, and feed frozen food. Im thinking i might buy frozen mysis shrimp, so it will be good for my lps, softies, fish, and cleaner shrimp.

I was wondering wich of the 2 is better, and do i thaw it out or do i just drop a piece of it frozen in the tank?

mysis.............take a 1/4 cup or less of tank water out, add your mysis, let it thaw and separate, than feed

The best thing to do is use variety. All foods have benifits to them. I feed flakes and pellets at the same time during my AM feeding. Then for pm I feed either Mysis, Brine, krill, with cyclopeez. All foods get 3 drops of kents garlic extreme before eating. Also one of the feedings gets soaked in selcon.......

I feed both mysis and brine. I rinse the cubes out in a brine shrimp net and throw it in.

Will it still be in chunks when i thaw it out? Or little tiny bits?

You guys know of any pics of what it should look like after thawed out to feed to fish?

It should thaw into the size of the individual brine or mysis shrimp. I don't have a picture off hand, but when I feed tonight I'll try and get one.

It provides extra nutrition and thereby enhancing the fishes immune system (or so I've read). It also can help entice pickey eaters.

Two cubes of brine shrimp and one cube of mysis frozen.

Cubes thawed, you can use a turkey baster to mix the food and make it thaw faster, I usually just throw them in the net and run water over them until they are thawed though.

I run the food under the tap in a brine shrimp net to get rid of the water that was frozen with it. The idea is that the fish cannot use that murkey water as food so it's not doing any good to feed it. By rinsing it the food you prevent that liquid from getting in the tank and feeding nuisance algaes.

X 2, exactly the same procedure and food I use most of the time.

There are days when I use the larger PE mysis with selcon and cyclopeeze added to the mix.

They sell cubes in smaller sizes now which should make it easier for people with smaller tanks. This is the daily feeding for my 120g tank.

You can run it under tap water when using the net. I use tank water if I plan on dumping the water in with the food.

im not an expert on the subject but mysis are fresh water inhabitants and brine are salt. i dont see how a food that grows and lives in fresh water can be better then brine which grows and takes in saltwater nutrients....

i prefer to feed brine shrimp hands down..

mix it up with flakes and frozen foods. i buy 32 oz bags of frozen food. usually 4 to 4 different types. i mix all bags together. then i fill there test tubes i have so they can be proportioned in to 12 containers and the rest is separated equally in zip lock bags. this way its cheaper and i have to get food less often. does not take up as much space as the individual cubes.

Whether a critter lives in saltwater, freshwater, or no water doesn't determine whether it is more nutritious or not. But mysis and brine both have their pros and cons. As others have said, a mixture is best.

- Adult mysis are about 70% protein, while adult brine are only about 40% protein.

- In general brine shrimp generate a good feeding response from fish, so they're great for fish that aren't as interested in eating.

- Brine shrimp can also be fed other foods with excellent nutritional value, like nannochloropsis or Selcon. Then you feed these brine shrimp to the fish.

- Newly hatched brine shrimp are also very nutritious.
