Lump on peppermint shrimp

Well today I noticed that on my new peppermint shrimp there is a pretty large lump on the left side of his body. I don't know what it is and I did some searching around and want to know if its a parasite. If it is im yanking this guy out. Last thing I need is to have it infect a fish when the first one gets added in a few weeks. I couldn't get a picture myself but I found a picture on another site after I did a search and its the exact same thing.

This doesn't look like part of his shell at all. I caught him finally(which was a major pain) and theres this large mass under his skin. Looks almost like a small tumor sort of thing. The first thing I thought when I noticed it earlier today was, cool I might have baby shrimp running around eventually but after closer looks its not eggs. I would have just kept him in the tank to see what happened but I have a brand new coral banded and cleaner shrimp inside that I want to see live healthy. I have the peppermint in a container now with some water. I really don't want to take him back to the LFS store tomorrow because I don't want someone else getting this if it is infected.

I would guess it is an injury site, possibly from the time it had soft exoskeleton after a molt, or just from getting poked or attacked at some point. I would guess it will molt out of it in time.

I am afraid that any treatment that would normally remove an isopod from a fish, would be bad for the shrimp. You might try either QT and wait to see if it detaches, or manually remove it like a tick. You might have to lift the exoskeleton plate to get to it, but its worth a try. Yuk.

Yeah, its not pretty either way I go about it. I guess these things just sit there and suck the shrimps blood so either way he probably wouldn't make it very long. I guess I could get some tweezers and try getting it out but im afraid that may only hurt the poor little dude even more and he probably wouldn't make it. It can't go into QT because I use copper in there plus I have a new clown in that tank right now. What to do what to do...

It is an isopod. I have seen them several times. Never had to remove one, but if it was my shrimp I would probably try to remove it (and hope it could be remove like a tick) with a pair of tweezers or a single edge razor blade.
