Killing Aiptasia during cycle
I've just added 23 LBS of "cured" rock to my 28G cube and I have a few aiptasias on the main rock. I call it the main rock because it is my biggest piece. I just put the rock in on 10/17, LFS said to come back on 10/20 for some hermit crabs but I’m going to give it another week or two. I've tested my tank and I’m reading 0's on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
Yesterday was really the first time i had my lights on for about 7 hours and when i came home I found some feather dusters and coco worms which was nice however I spotted about 3 to 4 small aiptasias. What would be the best course of action to take? I do not have anything in the tank except the rock and sand. I did not plan on adding anything until at least one to two weeks from 10/17. The time I started up I used "cured" rock and did not really have a cycle, I waited about 1 week to add a CUC and everything worked out just fine. What would you recommend to do? Should I add a peppermint shrimp? Should I use some form of aiptasia killing chemical? |

For just 3 or 4 aiptasia you could just use the lemon juice method. Get a needle from the drug store and just squirt the lemon juice on them.
AiptasiaX is the best chemical you can buy, but homemade solutions like lemon juice, boiling water, and kalkwasser paste have had success.

I agree with Frogman, however I had the same problem(kinda) I had Majamos instead during my cycle and freaked out! Aiptasia X does the job with ease.

Is there a specific type of syringe I need to purchase to use for this? Or would AiptasiaX include something like this?

Aiptasia X will come with everything you need it comes with 2 types of syringes one hooked and one straight so its easier to apply. It worked really well. Just make sure to turn off your returns and filters

I'm assuming this is something i should take care of ASAP so I should get on this as quick as possible but a few days shouldn't hurt right? I want to see if a LFS has AiptasiaX because I do not want to have to order it.

It all depends on how quick the Aiptasia reproduce in your specific tank (sometimes it can happend over night where you might see a lot more, or sometimes you might be lucky) However, I think youll be alright! Dont stress it
