A UV will not eradicate an outbreak of ich.
You need to remove the infected fish right away and treat in a QT or hospital tank. Otherwise you run the risk of it spreading.

Yes, the UV will only affect things that go through it... Ich will prevail with or without a uv

+1 to the above

I am curious, have you added anything recently? I ask because there is an ongoing "feud" between those that think ick can be ever-present and those that think it can be irradicated. Would love to hear input on the circumstances of your outbreak.

I just added them to the tank recently. There was 6 chromis in there prior and none of them have ich on them at this time.

There is no way to solve the "mystery" of ick through internet posts. Ick is a living thing that can be killed, I don't really get why some peoples improper qt and medication procedures constitutes a internet feud but it does. Ick is not always present if you can kill it, simple. However it might always be present for some people as it might not be cost effective for your avg person to do an ick free system. For the most part a simple QT and proper water quality/feeding do the trick. In the end if you want an Ick free tank you will need to treat with copper or hypo for at least 2 months, a fish free tank for at least 2 months, and then anything wet needs to sit in a fallow tank for at least 2 months... snails, corals, rock, sand, anything.

A UV will do nothing for your ick problem. Do you have bioballs or anything else in your sump you could use for filtration if you pulled the live rock and treated the tank with copper?
