suggestion on fish/corals for 30g?
Any suggestions of what fish to get for my 30g reef? Right now it cycling so im thinking to get my 1st fish in about a month if the cycle is done by then. I want about 4 fish max. I was thinking 2clowns maybe a very small yellow or blue tang (leaning twards yellow because of blue's notorious ick problem) and or maybe a copperhead butterfly.
Coral wise i wana have a little mix of everything. If you have any ideas on corals or fish just list some. Thanks alot!! |

No tang is suitable for that size tank - http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=739380 Copperbands are tough to keep - http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=1492696
In my 30g I have a misbar percula clown and it's RBTA, a fridmani dottyback, a five line wrasse and a yahsa haze goby and it's tiger pistol shrimp. As far as corals go, it'll depend on your lighting.

I agree with SM on these two fish, I have always heard tangs need 75gal or more and I know two people who had good tanks with little luck with the copperbands neither made it more than a few weeks. Next month will be one year trouble free for me and the 34gal with 1 clown 1 purple chromis. and about a dozen corals they are more interesting and hardy than most fish. good luck!

2 clowns and a goby or a blenny and I would be done. 30g is not alot to work with. The more bioload(from fish) the more upkeep and potential issues you will have
Also for corals you will be very limited with you lighting since many of the coral you will want will require much more light than you can provide. Some mushrooms, zoas and maybe some other low light softies. Until you upgrade to a high quality t5 or mh setup, you will not be able to handle most corals.

go to liveaquaria.com, they have fish and the certain tank size requierments, with your lights i wouldnt try SPS at all! but softies and LPS are probably fine, if you wanna try to get a nem, its risky due to the lights but its possible, just feed it a lot, BTA ONLY. i personally think a clown/goby/sixlinewrasse is the best nano fish list

A cool fish suggestion would be Rainsford Goby. It's a sand sifter with amazing colours.
