Sump substitutes

Can I use a regular glass tank instead of those expensive premade sumps/refugiums?

within reason, you can use just about anything that is reef safe that will hold water. I use a 120g oceanic as my fuge, and a 50g oceanic for the sump with my (you guessed it) oceanic 150 DT

here is my sump on my clam tank. a 60'ish polyethelyne container that is absolutely 100% leak proof due to its ultrasonic welded seams. no silicone joints, not acrylic bonding delamination etc for potential future leaks that happens when youre on vacation.

this is for my clam tank which is skimmerless and has been for the past three years.

just an alternative method that goes against conventional reefing resulting in excellent...well, results!
