My 90 gallon tank. Your comment are most welcome
I need your comment for my tank:
90 gallon 100lbs LR 1x150W MH 20000K 2xT5 25W Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 Calcium 410 pH 7 others parameter not measured My question is: 1. How to raise the pH and what cause my pH very low? 2. How to growth coraline algae on my LR? 3. My Sun Polyp is bleaching. Is this due to low pH (cannot calcification?) 3. Anything wrong with my tank? Comment are welcome Here's some photos: Oh yeah, dont comment about my tang. I know my tank is not big enough for this creature(100x60x60cm). Any others comment is welcome. Your Sun Coral is likely starving. Are you feeding it? If not it will keep on "bleaching". It's a nice piece....feed it regularly and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
That maroon colored Gorgonian in your third picture (upper right) might need regular feeding as well. It might be non-photosynthetic. What color are the polyps? Put it in good flow to help break up that outer "skin". They "shed", and need good flow or they will get smothered in undesirable algae. You can help it along by blowing it off with a turkey baster. Once the polyps expand feed them! |

I have a sun coral also. They're challenging to feed. I usually feed my tank a really small amount about 15 minutes before the 'real' feeding. My sun coral opens up, then I feed again & spot feed the sun coral.

They will open at some point... but it may be in the middle of the night. Most of the time if you feed it small amounts of food on a frequent basis it will open. If not, you can wait until it does open & then feed it. Then slowly train it to open at a different time of day.
They're not an easy coral to get going, but once they do they're not too hard to maintain.

beosakti please check out the Non-Photosynthetic Coral forum on Reef Central for a wealth of information about feeding Sun Corals. Here is an excellent thread by stunreefer that describes this in detail:

It's working for me...try refreshing your browser. If that doesn't work just go to the Non-Photosynthetic Coral forum on Reef Central. It's on page 2 with the green arrow titled "Care of Large Polyp Non-Photosynthetic Corals".

What are the two clear corals? They look sort of like frogspawn, one on each side of the sun coral?
How long has your tank been running for? Do you measure nitrates? If yes, what is the level?

Take that sun coral and put it under the rock ledge its on, they dont like light too much! There are plenty of ph raising products out there, but you really should figure out why its so low to begin with? What brand of salt are you using? how often are you doing water changes? You have alot of corals in there that need to be fed. If you cannot spot feed, try some cyclopeeze and turn off all of your pumps for an hr a couple times a week. the goniopora needs alot of food to survive, as do the sun corals, as well as the gorgonian. Good luck!
p.s. is that a patch of hair algae? check your phosphate levels. Also, the coraline just takes time. If you can get a piece of rock with it on already, it helps to seed the rest of the rock. |

how long has the tank been setup? it looks fairly new... im guessing around 2-3 months? what are your nitrates at? only 1 150 watt halide? i would move your sunpoylips down like stated above... feed the same time every day and shut off circulation.... the flower pot and suncorals are the 2 hardest corals to keep in my opinon. the flowerpot requires a nutrient rich tank to even began to survive, and the sun polyps require so much attention. i also see some hair algae in one of the pics. what kind of water are you using? ro/di? tap?...
these are some things just from the pics that i see. from some of the pics it looks like you have some creative aquascaping in there. how about a fulll tank shot? |

Try thawing some cyclopeeze in a small cup of tank water. Then, with a syringe or small turkey baster, squirt the food on and around the sun coral. Hopefully, this will stimulate the polyps to open and you can feed them. I would try just after you lights go out. As was mentioned you have to "train" them to come out at feeding time. The cyclopeeze should also work for the gorgonian.

Yes there are hair algae and I believe this is due to high phospate level. Thank you for your comment |
