live sand problem
hey everyone i have been cycling my new 155 for almost a month and all is going well except the back of my tank, when i added water to the tank of course it kicked up some sand, i gave it a while to settle and when it did i had a white film all over the tank. i got it off the front with some work it is hard and crusty, and have been hoping it will just go away on the back but it still hasnt. what happened and will it ever go away? it makes the black background look like sheete.

Is it not the sand that was stirred up that coated everything?
I take my hand and fan my live rock and corals where sand sometimes settles on them. Also in the future, put a bowl in the tank but don't sink it (you can but it's a harder target that way). Let the bowl float and pour your water in the bowl, it will overflow in one direction and that will keep your water from diving into the tank. Another idea that I do very often is buy a cheap dollar store pitcher. Fill up your pitcher and sink the pitcher into the tank and tip it upside down while it is submerged, this immediately incorporates the water and does so on the top of the tank so no sand to kick up! |

Have you tried using a magnetic algae scrubber on the sides?
