What For a Nano???? Help please
Ok so, I have been into saltwater fish and aquariums for about 3 years now (im only 14) and we have a 75g reef tank that we have had for about a year and a half. We have a guy maintain it and I have been watching him for while and i want to start and maintain a tank in my room on my own and buy stuff from him.
I have a 28g rectangle tank, i need to know what i need to get. I dont have much money so i was thinking about getting mabey 1 100-150 watt bulb. for filters maybey an aquaclear 50. for fish: i want a flame angel but are they reef safe? 1 black and white clown hmmm mabey a yellow goby possibly a yellow tang i want to put in about 20 lbs of live rock and about a 1 and a half and inch live sand bed. i want a frogspawn some xenia and mushrooms some zoos a hammer and maybey some other colorful stuff would my lighting be good enoguh for all that? just gettin some ideas. itll be after christmas probabley january before i get it started. thanks! |

too small for a yellow tang, any dwarf angel is risky at best in a reef.
150watt mh would be enough light for any of the corals you mentioned. aquaclear is a good little HOB to run carbon in , but a skimmerless nano requires weekly waterchanges to stay healthy

+1 on the tank is too small for a yelow tang, or any other tang. as for the flame angel, some people have had "luck" with them, others havent. from what ive read, it seems to come down to when they will start to nip at corals, and not if. i have a flame angel and a flameback in my tank right now and i think its time to get rid of them. some of my nicer zoa's are dissapearing. i havent caught them in the act, but i suspect it is them

i would suggest making the aquaclear into a fuge...there's alot of info on here about diy fuges..and waterchange is a must in a small tank. happy reefing!

none of those are beginner corals cept the zoo and shroom. u could try green star polyps too. clown gobies are a pain. and remember that bottom dwelling fish can be territorial with eachother. especially blennies. though i have never had a problem with bicolor blennies.
