Adding a Mandarin

After a ick outbreak and loss of a few fish I removed all fish to qt for treatment and left display empty for 8 weeks. I'm getting ready to return fish to main tank. From now on I want qt all new fish for a month.
I'd like to add a Mandarin, but how do you qt a Mandarin in a small tank for 4 weeks without a pod population.Do you just add and hope for the best, dip and add or some other method.

to keep a mandarine your tank must be well established and contain "some type of ceelapod or something"i cant remember their exact name but this is the only thing mandarines really eat good luck

to say they can't get ich is not 100% accurate. they can get it, i've seen it, and velvet. they are much less likely to get it. if you get a healthy fat specimen that does not have a pinched gut i would feel fine putting it straight into the display tank. (and i'm a big preacher on proper QT). if you get one that is skinny and doesn't look good, it is suseptable to disease because it's slime coat could be comprimised. i would think twice about adding this fish into my display tank, or for that matter purchasing the fish.
so basically the key is get a healthy looking specimen and you should be fine. ideally find one eating prepared foods. good foods to start with are freshly hatched brine, and prawn eggs, they love the prawn eggs.
good luck
jon

These fish notoriously starve to death even in mature tanks with pods...think twice.
