250 watt phoenix endcap problem

I'm having some issues keeping my 250 watt phoenix bulb staying in my endcaps. The phoenix has these ceramic ends that go out over the metal which don't allow me to slide it all the way into its socket. It seems like a tight fit until I fire it up and the bulb slides down out the end cap. Can I just brake part of the ceramic off?

i just went ahead and broke one of the ceramic ends, it fits like a charm now, been running for over an hour and before it only took 5 minutes to fall out. i bought the fixture used and didnt notice the last guy had to break one end of his bulb, so i just did the same thing. thanks for the help though.
