Clam ID...Ultra Maxima?

Hi all,

I just bought this nice 5" clam and I have a couple of questions.

Is it a Ultra Maxima?

Also, I have placed it on my sand bed. I have read that some people say to place it on a flat rock instead. A buddy told me that some bristle works can crawl up inside from underneath if not place on a rock.

What is your opinion on this?

bristle worms won't touch it unless it is dead but placing it on a flat rock helps if you ever want(need) to move it , it will attach to the rock and not your tank !

http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-0...ture/index.php

Here is an identification article.

Another link from ORA that provides good information

http://www.orafarm.com/clams.html

"Ultra" refers to the grade at which it is. I read a time back that a large percentage of the highest grade (Ultra?), went to the Japanese due to high demand. Only a percentage went here, and that we got the leftovers.

I have seen pictures of some outragous clams of exotic coloration and pigments....it would be nice if someone could list those grades and how they are determined.

However, we should all look here......and ask as well....
