biological filtration basically. the DSB will be in a 29gal tub. il put that tub in a larger 50gal tub. put live rock in the remaining space of the larger tub with no light.

my fuge will connect to these tubs, then the tubs will hook up to tubing headng directly into the DT by way of gravity. all this will be above DT level

i plan to grow sps so i want to ensure the best quality water i can

will microfauna that pass from the fuge to the 50gal tub full of live rock(no light) thrive in this environment, as in colonize?

-->ATS-->fuge-->live rock(no light)--> Display Tank(gravity).

or should i flip the fuge and live rock tub?

-->ATS-->live rock(no light)-->fuge--> Display Tank(gravity).

another question... can microfauna go through a pump safely or is gravy method preferred?

thanks.

I know plenty of people doa remote DSB, so I know it can be done effectively. I have never set one up (or any DSB for that matter) so I cannot really comment much on that. I would search "remote DSB" or "remote deep sand bed" on here to get some info.

Also, you might still get filter feeders and the like growing on the rock, just not really any algaes. IMO this can actually be good for the sump because IME this is where algae has always gotten "out of control" for me. Purely for filtration reasons, I wouldn't terribly worry about not having light on those rocks.
