alternatives to vodka

What else could you use other than vodka that some one under 21 could buy?

Ditto, vinegar and sugar is the simple answer though if you were reading enough to be attempting such a dosing regimine, you'd already know that. It's not something to just play around with so, please read more.

brightwell aquatics bio fuel, anyone use this? I am thinking of getting some when I get a bigger, better skimmer.

Yeah I heard vinegar works, but I dont want to risk the ph drop, sugar I also heard was harder to get accurate measuring with compared to a vodka.

I'm assuming your trying to get the Nitrates and Phosphates down.

Here's a product - http://www.reefinterests.com/content/view/18/36/
Here's where you buy it - http://www.marinedepot.com/NP_Biopel...FMCHNR-vi.html

And here's the thread on it - http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1694529

A local reefer brought this up on the forums, and another local responded that he hasn't had any issues at all

No, not cheap at all, but in return you get the ease of changing them out every 3-6 months (depending on your tank parameters) or when needed.

No measuring/dosing/measuring/dosing etc etc. Put these into a LF Phosban reactor and check them every so often. Do your normal testing and maintenance. It's a simple way of dosing without the added responsibilities of making sure your not going to nuke your tank by dosing it. (especially if you've never dosed vodka/sugar/vinegar before).

The Brightwell Reef BioFuel is a good product also, just make sure to use it as directed (kind of what a doctor would say. Don't OD)

Would denatured ethyl alcohol work? Not sure how they denature it... but they sell it at hardware stores. But, I have no idea if that would work for dosing.

I teach at a school and we can get the good stuff... 95 to 100% pure ethyl alcohol... I might look into dosing, but so far the LR, skimmer and refugium is working pretty well, so probably won't mess with it.
