Is coralline algae beneficial to the tank in any way, other than asthetically? One person said it was a plague as it clogs up the LR.

It presence on surfaces retards and inhibits the growth of other less preferred algae. Also, it is indicative of a healthy tank.

It's just a sign. Let's you know you have balanced CA, Mg, and Alk. As far as it clogging pores, sure it will, but I doubt is does to the point of being a problem.

I consider it a plague only because I hate having to scrape it off of my glass and pumps. I tried an urchin, but they just bulldoze frags.

Current Tank Info: 40g breeder DT LR & Macro Algae - 2" sand, 6 T5s & 2 fans in hood; 30gL sump/fuge w/MSX 200 skimmer & other equip.; (mangroves in DT - roots are great look)
