RO Unit Questions
OK,
So i was at my LFS and a "very knowledgeable reef expert" was telling me that I should use the smallest RO membrane that I can get by with b/c leaving the unit sitting will cause chlorine and chloramines to clog the carbon filter rendering it useless and having to be changed. He said I should turn my unit on atleast every couple of days(if even for a little while). The reason he said this is b/c I had not had my unit on for a couple of weeks. He also goes on to say that this has most likely also caused chlorine and chloramines to reach the ro membrane, b/c the carbon filter can no longer do its job, which has in turn ruined the membrane. Is this true? Or does this guy not know what he is talking about....I have never heard any of this before. thanks |

ummm.. no. If there is no water flowing into the unit, then there is no chlorine or chloramines making it into the unit...
which LFS did you get that advice from? I personally go with the largest I can get due to the potential for need for emergency water for my tank or any of my friends tanks. |
