EMERGENCY: NEED Halides, Mine wont turn on

Last night was 59 degrees in my room, I got a heater last minute and set it to 80, went out for two hours and came back to see the tank was cooking my reef at over 87 degree's. Spent all last night trying to gradually cool my fish down in isolation before I lost them all, I wake up this morning eagerly anticipating my 250 Watt system to come on however it a no go.

PLEASE does anyone of have any spare lights I can borrow ASAP to crutch my tank until I can get my lighting back up.

I have a two year old Odyssea 250watt DE HQI fixture and it sounds like the ballast is gone. I'm going to see later if its the bulb, holder, or ballasts thats fried but if anyone has something please please let know.

I've never used a heater in my tank until this year and unfortunately I was stupid to think the heater was set properly just by the dial.

Check your bulbs. I thought my ballast went on me once. But it was my 3 month old bulb that blew.

I am not sure how long it will take you to get a ballast, but people have turned off their lights for 3 days while trying to kill algae. They dont seem to have a problem without the lights for that long.
I think that you can get the ballast at an electrical supply place.

Thank Rob, my pheonix 14K looks AMAZING compared to the Odyssea fixture even though I think the AquaMedic Ballast is Magnetic and the Odyssea is electronic.

You should keep some back up lights. I've kept my lights after upgrades, you never know when you might need them.

Which Odyssea ballast do you have? Is it built in or seperate? You are seeing that big of a difference in the light huh?

The odyssea is a 250 watt electronic 2008 model, I'll definately be keeping the odyssea fixture around. I'm planning on getting a new ballast first that has a 3 year warranty minimally because the aqua-medic ballasts suck energy and it also has the typical annoying hum these ballasts are prone to have. However I must say theres a noticeable increase in intensity from the pendant compared to the odyssea fixture. My odyssea lasted two years and at only 100$ you cant beat a deal like that. The only issue is the risk of the device failing and you loosing your live stock. My tank is only 30 gallons and I blast it with 250 watts so when I was down for 3 days my monti's i got from stag crazy are bleaching a little which is a shame since I had terrible luck with SPS's mostly accept for the ones I got from stagcrazy which did AMAZING.

I'm planning on making sure I have back ups for lighting so I never have to fear the time it can take to get a replacement or have someone as nice as rob help out.
