Part of my bi-color angel's tail missing. Who's the culprit?

Part of its tail is cut clean but otherwise, he's behaving normal. Who could've done this? I don't have any mean fish nor fin nippers but I do have a couple of emerald crabs and some hermits. I also have couple of powerheads inside the tank. Who's guilty?

Well, we'd need to know everything that's in your tank.

Definitely not the firefish goby they are afraid of their own shadow.

What kinda power filter do you have?

Otherwise I agree its probably the tomato clown.

I too would assume your tomatoe would be the only one thats is known to be mean. They are especially snippy if they have dicided to host a certain spot in the tank and another fish ventures into that spot.

We just got a flame angel last month, and within 5 seconds of releasing him in the tank our clown attacked him and held onto his tail fin until the angel ducked into some rocks. Took a good chunk out of his fin. Needless to say, the clown got relocated to the sump.

I just can't imagine it being the tomato. They've been in the tank together for over a year at the same time and I've yet to see any hostility in my tank among any residents except for one emerald crab that snaps its big claw whenever anything comes near.

Tomato clowns get really agressive the older they get. How big of a tank are these fish in?

Hmmm, I could see the clown being aggresive in that size tank. Tomato clowns are the second most aggresive clowns, after the maroons. They get big and are very territorial. I suspect your bi color got a little too close to the clowns "territory" and got beat up.

I will have to vote for the tomato also. I had one in my 55 and after 6 months, she decided half the tank was hers and went after anything (regardless of size) that intruded on it. I finally set up a small 20L in my office for her ands he has been living on her own since then... except the mate I put in which she isnt real fond of.... but is getting there.
