New Light Fixture = Algea Bloom
I finally broke down and bought a Nova Extreme Pro and set it up a week before Christmas. Since then I have had an algae bloom. The rock is covered with a brownish green algae and its starting to cover the sand. My question is what to do next? I don't remember how we got through this when we started.

Hiya fellow Alabama person
The change in spectrum can cause algae to bloom, just like you say. Basically you get rid of it with a few measures. Increase water change frequency with RO or RODI water Remove any you can by hand Decrease photo period for a week or so (you can even turn the lights completely off for 3 or 4 days with no ill effect to corals) You can also run GFO to remove any extra phosphates you might have floating around. Thank you for the help. That's what I was thinking, but just wanted to get others input. By the way, what is "GFO" (brain dead)
