Go for the Q5's. Depending on the depth of your tank, you may not need optics either.
I just finished my 14g Biocube retro (DIY) and it is also definitely worth it to set up dimming correctly. I ended up getting my Crees from Nanotuners along with their heat sink. If you want to set up dimming on a 12 LED array, it's much easier to use BuckPuck drivers (3023-E-D-1000 model) because it uses a standard potentiometer instead of having to build a 10v PWM circuit like you would with the Meanwell ELN-60-48D's which are what is offered with the dimming kits on rapidled.com You also would want to use a 2 seperate drivers if you wanted to dim blues and whites seperately to control color temperature. IMHO, you can't go wrong with LEDs on small tanks: They don't throw off a lot of heat, you get a lot of PAR for your wattage and you can control the color temperature. Oh, did I mention the amazing fluorescence that the royal blues produce? I'm getting more vibrant colors from some corals and I'm getting fluorescence in the pink, yellow and blue that my actinic PC's didn't pick up on. |
