Clown Fish Behavior
Have anyone ever had a problems with Clown Fish hiding? I bought a pair on Firday afternoon and they have come out of the rocks for a short period of time. They are ocellaris clowns, look really healthy. I have checked Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite and they are all 0. My ph is running 8.0 to 8.2, salinity is 1.022. I also bought 4 snails on Friday and they are doing great. Do you have any ideas on why they might be hiding. I have never had clown fish hide like this in the past.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as they look healthy and not stressed out. I have a Kole Tang that I bought two weekends ago and he's just now starting to poke his head out from the rocks. I had one before that that swam around the tank almost immediately.
You might try dimming the lights for a couple of days and see if that helps. --Andy |

Curious how old is the tank? This is normal for fish to hide for a bit, but age of tank is a curiousity.

Its normal for clowns to act somewhat strange anyways. In the wild they generally don't travel more than 18" from their home and when they are hosted with an anemone its normal for them not to venture very far. Give the new fish time to settle in and they will start becoming less timid.

Well I saw one of them out and about last night after the lights went out. I went into the kitchen and when I turned the light on I saw one of them. I could not tell if the other one was out or not. I made some home made food last night and the nibbled a little bit at it. So maybe they are getting adjusted. I sure hope so, if something happens to them my 2yo is not going to be happy.

I have a mated pair of true percs that found a mating place in the back of the tank so I rarely see them until it's feeding time.
