Dead Rock

I have some rock that I took out of my tank about a month ago. I would like to use some of it for my tank again. What is the best procedures I should do to get it suitable to go back in the tank.

Thanks

If you do not need to increase nitrification activity you can just make sure that all decayable material on it has decayed.

If you wait long enough for complete decay, some nitrification bacteria will invariably have grown on it.

You can soak it is salt water of the same salinity as the target tank water for a few weeks to make sure that there is nothing more to decay.

Thanks for the quick response. Should I change the water after a few days?

Cure it in a separate tank/container to make sure all dead stuff is rinsed off and the rock is safe to go in your display. Treat it just like curing new live rock.

I don't think you need to, but some times the best way to see if there is any more things to decay is by odor.
