Worst thing you ever put in your tank?
Worst thing you ever put in your tank? Can be a fish, invert or coral.I'll go first.
Worst for me would have to be a sally lightfoot crab because my LFS told me they are very peaceful crabs and would not bother any fish. haha. We now celebrate his passing with an all you can eat crab leg buffet. |

I'll play. Xenia. Before I knew what hit me, I had over 100 stalks of it. Of course, LFS did give me over $200 store credit on trade in. I eventually sold the rest to inexperienced reefers, ha!

It has to be the black domino damsel. I told my wife to pick something out at the LFS while I was at work, just so I would have something to look at in my newly cycled 125. Little did I know she would get the meanest of the bastarditis ubiquitous. I have tried every type of fish trap, food in the net, even shish-kabob skewers and rubber bands to spear fish them out…nothing. The whole tank has to come down this weekend…just when I have my aquascape the way I want. Profanity doesn’t do it justice.

I mean no doubt a beautiful fish, but home boy ravished all my hermit crabs, starfish, shrimp, and had a weird liking to my acans. You got lucky, but i had to banish him from my setup.

Yellow Clown Goby, stressed my SPS to no end and took me a 1/2 a day and many broken corals to catch him.

What worked for me was the 2 liter bottle fish trap concept with a frozen piece mysis cube. Frozen is better so that as is melts underwater slowly releasing the smell out luring the little bastard in. Mike Emerson Link removed - Anemone Last edited by Anemone; 02/13/2010 at 02:12 PM. |

I have had a lot of things I regretted putting into the tank but by far the worst was....majano anemones. Yep, I bought them at a LFS labeled as colonial anemones. Colonial is right! Didn't realize they would claim my whole tank as a colony. I had those things for at least 15 years. I would think they were gone but there would be a few behind some rocks or something and they would come back. I finally think they are all gone now. Haven't seen one for probably 6 months.

Oh I've done the Damsel thing before. Although, they never bothered me much. Of course, when I owned them I was very inexperienced in the hobby & my LFS didn't have a whole lot else to offer besides some colorful Damsels. When I think back on that LFS & how much he portrayed to know about the hobby - when he actually knew so very little. Funny stuff! Crushed Coral & Undergravel Filter. Whoohoo!!

Crossi damselfish. Bought him as a small and very attractive juvie, he was fine for the first year or so. Slowly lost his color and turned ugly brown. Then one day I came home and looked at my tank and thought "where are all my fish?". The damsel was darting back and forth and all my other fish were hiding under rocks - he just snapped one day.
