the tank will contain 3-5 modded maxijets on wave timers....

me personally would go with a 600gph overflow and a mag5 or something comparable.

What kind of skimmer will you have? Could match the overflow and pump to the skimmer.

I've got a 300 gph eshopps overflow on a 40 breeder (same footprint, just 2" shorter), with a return pump that is ~ to a mag 3 (via aqua 1300). Plenty of flow. I have a Tunze 9010 and a bunch of chaeto in the sump, and the skimmer pulls a lot while the chaeto grows like kudzu. I've been very pleased with this setup, and the tank is doing well.

With the setup you're proposing, you should have 250-300 gph going through your sump, or 5-6X your tank volume. Some folks would say that is almost more flow than is optimal, while others would say crank it up. It also depends on what you want to put in your sump - e.g. refugium - which may dictate lower or higher flow. Have fun!

i have a hang on refugium for the set up but will attemp to grow macro in the sump depending on the footprint left over after the skimmer is added...leaning toward the bubble magus nac6 for the skimmer (which seems to have a small footprint)...if i can utilize the sump to grow maco the hang on ref. will not be used
