12g Nanocube with Powerhead help
I recently purchased a Koralia nano powerhead for my 12g nanocube and I was wondering if this is too much flow? I put it in and it seemed as though everything in the tank didn't like it, especially my hammer coral. Is this too much flow or is there just a better place to put it? Its a fairly new tank so all I have in it is live rock and sand, 2 clownfish, 1 hammer coral and 3 blue hermit crabs. Thanks for the help.

point the power head so it deflects off the front glass and not directly at any coral
how much live rock do you have in the 12 gallon? |

what I do is put the pump on one side of the tank and face it towards one of the top front corners. this creates surface movement, an undercurrent down the front glass and not directly on any corals or livestock.

I have mine on the back wall and aim it at the front glass and towards the surface.

Thank you guys for all of your advice. What are the benefits of running the powerhead in a tank this small?

I run a Koralia 2 in a 30 gallon as well as a rio 1400 that pumps water through a chiller and back into the tank through a Sea Swirl. As others have said, I have the koralia facing one of the front corners so it doesn't "blow" directly onto any corals.
As far as needing extra flow, that depends on what all you are planning on keeping. Even fish like a little water movement. If your hammer coral is in direct line it probably won't like it. Sometimes, though, things just need to get aclimated to the new conditions. |
