Eheim 1260Mesh Mod - how to and is it worth it?

So it seems like my Deltec has not been pulling enough from my water lately so I have been thinking of doing a mesh mod. I searched for some how-to links but did not see anything after about 15 minutes of looking, so I am hoping an autohor can easily point me to a thread.

Some of the questions I would need answered are:

Where to get mesh material?
Do you leave existing pins?
How do you attach mesh?
Can you buy relacement part already mesh modded?
etc?

What are peoples' experiences with this customization, does it work? How satisfied with the results? I saw on a thread recently that Eheim did not do mesh mod's because pinwheels were more reliable and consistent?
