Clownfish and the clam

I have 2 Saddleback Clownfish. I also have a bubble tip anemone and a long tentacled anemone. They don't like them. Instead they chose to host in my Maxima clam. Is this normal? I think they are irritating that poor clam half to death. Why won't they host in an anemone like they are supposed to? They also attack anything that comes near the clam. I suppose that is good for the clam. I can't take the clam out because it's foot is firmly secured to bottom of the tank. How do you make clownfishes host where they are supposed to?

Did you try the trick where you tape up a picture of clown fish hosting in an anenomie, were they hang out? Supposedly they will look at it and say, thats what I am supposed to do!

lmao! I was actually thinking about posting a sign next to the anemones about free condiminiums. Do you think they will go for it?

lmao i dont think that they will go for the free condo they are kinda ****y sometimes. i think that you need to offer them more than a condo. in all seriousness they will host whatever they want, sometimes they just host a rock, what are they doing that you think is hurting the clam?

They aren't hurting the clam, but the clam doesn't extend it's mantle as much as it used to. I wonder what it thinks about the clownfish. Maybe I can offer them a pool to go with their condiminium?

My LFS has a gigas that has hosted a pair of black occ. since they, and it, were quite a bit smaller. Now it is around 12", they swim right into its large valve and hang out inside all the time. It is pretty neat. On a smaller clam though, it could be a problem getting irritated. It may get used to the small annoyance, but if it starts closing up, you will have to separate them somehow.
