Tunze wave box bs tunze pumps alone

I really don't understand how these work or differ. I know the box makes waves and moves the entire column of water. Do the regular pumps do the same thin? What would I need for a 180 gallon tank that's 6ft long 24 tall and 30in wide. Thanks for any info and suggestions

You would get a better idea by posting in the Tunze sponsor forum I think. The reps there like Roger are very very helpful.

The box displaces the water while a regular pump simply pushes water. When the pump in the box flips on it empties the water from the box, which adds a new volume of water moving across the tank, vs. a regular pump which just moves the water around the tank. I hope that makes sense and is helpfull.

The wave box works without the box as well, the pump is the 6200 versions but with the 6100 version drivers. It's all about controlling the pump in short cycles on and off. I have 2 in my tank now, and used one on my 180. I wouldn't have a saltwater tank again without one. Hth

Your wavebox question was answered...but I wanted to tell you (it sounds like this might be a tank you're considering buying) that the tank you described with those dimensions isn't a 180. It is a 225. I don't know if it matters to you or not... lol
