Water Quality Poll

Just wanted to see who uses RO or RODI water and do you feel your aquarium has any problems with water quality. Don’t really need tests to prove water quality, if you have then great.

RO=Reverse Osmosis
RODI=Reverse Osmosis, Deionization

I strictly use RO/DI water measuring 0 TDS. Once my meeter reader 1, I replace my filters. That said, no matter what water you are using you can have problems in the reef aquarium with algae, diatoms, dinos, cyano etc etc, if your overall husbandry is lacking. So, when you say "problems" what type of issues are you referring to?

Everyone has some sort of issue at some point. Whether you can blame it on the RO water or tap is hard to tell.
Seems a lot of people using tap end up with problems.
I've had "issues" but always used RODI so hard to tell how much worse things would be otherwise.
Depends on where you live too. Some areas have really good water, and some areas it's illegal to use these RO units because they waste so much water.

I'm sure If I had used tap things would have been much worse in my tank.

You are correct even though you use RODI you can still have water problems in the reef aquarium with algae, diatoms, dinos, cyano etc etc, if your overall husbandry is lacking.

I ran a reef for the longest time using only tap water and didn’t have any water quality issues. I may be just a lucky guy or a lot more people are doing this. I suspect the folks that tank the time to use RO/RODI water generally do not have water quality issues but wanted to see what a poll said

I have been considering an RODI unit but I have terrible well water and didn't think it would even be worth it. Anyone have experience using one with terrible well water?

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of such a poll.

While water quality may be negatively impacted by poor fresh water, it can obviously be impacted by a great many other factors, so the answers to these questions as posted may reveal little about the need for RO/DI.

I also did not see a choice for "I use RODI water and have issues"

I use tap and have a thriving reef, sps and softy mix. Now I do have some bubble algea, but dont think tap is to blame.
