Pest Algae and Kalk water for ATO

I have been fighting HA for a couple years now. I have been adding Kalk to my ATO during this time as well. All of the people that i know that are using 2 part do not have algae troubles like I do, is there a link?

I have a very large skimmer, filter sock and run GFO in a reactor that is changed twice a week...

it might be the water you're using for the ATO....

I use kalk in my ato and do not have this problem. Check you ato water supply first then go from there.

You are searching for a relationship between Kalk and algae that isn't there....

I read about someone else in another thread that some have made this connection. Here is a link to one other to with thoughts on this.
http://www.w3page.com/fishline/micro.html

I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I spend alot of money on test kits, RODI filters, Large water changes, Over sized skimmer! Rinse food, starve fish, Change bulbs, Change filter sock twice a day. Change GFO twice a week and still have bad HA.

My Brother and Nephew do the opposite and they do not have algae and their tanks look great. I see the same thing at many LFS where they just skim and water changes and look great.

Have a fuge? Run GFO? Those can be two great ways to eliminate unwanted algae.

kaulk is not the answer personally i dont like the ferrous oxide i like phosoguard and use a good grade carbon seachem matrix and purigen for all those who think phosoguard leaches alumin into the water is not true think what you want i guess but have good luck with these products and oh i use a old fashioned trickle filter with just a filter pad and a sponge on top of that that is washed out every couple days to me a sump has no air to water exchange water flows from tank into sump and then back out with a trickle filter water is exposed to air gasses escape and water asorbs the oxygen it works well for me and no algae

I run a fuge the for a while. what happened was, if the cheato grew so did the HA. If I changed the GFO enough for it to cause the HA to slow down then the cheato would die off.
