82.9f

Is this too hot for a reef and a mantis shrimp? I have a 12g nano set up and I came home today and it's 82.9. It's barely set up so nothings in it but some lr and live sand. Is it ok at this temp? If not what could I do to have it not overheat?

No, but large temperature swings can be dangerous. You can attach a fan to the water surface to increase evaporation and cool the water. You will obviously have to top off more often though.

Well I'm not sure what the temp swing is yet since it just got set up last night and the water was 74 when it was put in

I wouldn't put corals in at 82, one day my air conditioning broke; the tank went to 82, even my mushrooms were hit bad.

My tank runs between 79 and 84 and have no problems. As long as your swing occur over a a days time your temp is fine.

Well my air conditioning will be on in the warm months. My rents still ate using the heat. My big tank is doing fine and keepin in 78 but this tank is small with bright hot lights over it.

Might want to look at some fans. I know we dont usually kick the AC in for another month. If it was me I would be very concerned.

Well it'll probably be a while before I put an animal in there so I hope I'll figure something out by then

Just run a fan on it during the day and things should be fine in that small of a tank

82.9 is not only fine, it's just about ideal. The average temperature for reefs worldwide is about 82. Anything below about 86 is good, and in some cases it's ok to go slightly higher.

What matters the most is that the animals are acclimatized to the temperature you run.

some coral books I read a few years back suggest keeping all reefs at 81-82 constantly, thats what I've been keeping mine at, and I've never had any problems, all my colors are fine, but also it is a much harder temp to keep set.

Thanks for the info. Acclimating slowly will be new for me so I'll have to look into that more. I won't be adding anything till everything is stablized but just checking on the temp to see if it's all good.
