Looking for RO/DI filter advice
I have a 4 stage unit and I need to change my filters for the first time. I am confused about which are the most beneficial. Can anybody explain the 1 micron and 5 micron filter difference? Using the BRS build your own unit as a guide to which filters I need... What are the most beneficial filters to use in conjunction with a 4 stage unit?
The options are: Stage 1: 1 Micron Sediment Filter 5 Micron Sediment Filter Stage 2: 1 Micron Sediment Filter 5 Micron Sediment Filter 1 Micron Carbon Block (cto/2) 1 Micron Carbon Block (+1) Catalytic Carbon Cartridge Chlorplus 1 Micron Carbon Block Stage 3: 1 Micron Carbon Block (cto/2) 1 Micron Carbon Block (+1) Deionization Resin (color changing) Chlorplus 1 Micron Carbon Block Stage 4 (membrane): Different gallon per day selections

Well, with only 3 housings, if you have chloramine you're going to need at least two carbon cartridges and one DI (I have 5 and 4, respectively).
Microns are the size of the particles you could reasonably expect the filter to trap. |

you want stage one to be a sediment. Stage two a carbon block to absorb chlorine. Stage three is always your RO membrane. Stage Four is your water polisher. This is where DI resin will be. DI will help produce 0 TDS water. Without DI your are gonna get water between 10-25 TDS.
the smaller your micron for your sediment filter the quicker it will clog so it will need to be replaced sooner. |

Select the 1 Micron Sediment Filter instead of the 5, since it is cheap and protects the other filters.
